AWARE Minutes for August 22 Facilitator: Durl Kruse Minutes: David Green 1. Introductions (over 20 present) 2. News of the Week (posted separately by Carl Estabrook) 3. Discussion with Jay Pearce and Tom Rogers, WILL: [ed. note (REC) Kim Kranich, outreach coordinator of WILL, also attended] Jay Pearce emphasized the evolving nature of WILL's commentary policy, which had not been formalized until our submissions. While he promoted the restriction concerning local/regional interest, it was argued by several that international issues have a clear local impact, from the cost in lives to economics. After a long discussion, Pearce agreed to re-visit the recent submission by David Green, and promised that an policy would be more fully articulated as they hired staff that would be able to address the workload that regular commentaries (by AWARE and others) might require. This productive discussion, of both substantive and procedural issues, occupied the vast majority of this meeting. It was also stated that Black Perspectives TV show (Sunday at 1) would be in hiatus during the upcoming season, due to budgetary limitations and the priority of election coverage (on WILL-TV) 4. Tabling: will continue at Boardman's Art Theatre during The Corporation, at Farmers' Market (partial tabling this Saturday), and the Sweetcorn Festival, Friday evening at 5 and Saturday beginning at 11. Quad Day was yesterday, and AWARE pamphlets were on the Channing-Murray table. All of the pamphlets relating to enlistement (at least 30) were taken, as well as many regarding foreign policy, racism, etc. 5. Finances: Linda Evans not present, but Farmers' Market has collected $300-400 each of the past two Saturdays. 6.
