Minutes of February 29, 2004 AWARE meeting Facilitator: Lisa Chason Intros. Only 15 persons attending. News of the Week. By the assembled. Spying on the U.N., R. Perle resignation from Defense Policy Board, Iraqi governing council taking extra time developing constitution, Iranian elections boycotted by reformists, gay marriage amendment, NEA called terrorist Working Groups, Upcoming and New Business WEFT Underwriting. Do we want to renew A.W.A.R.E. underwriting which has been aired during Wednesday Courier. Randall Cotton read it. It costs $208 for six months. Editing was recommended to make it shorter but it should say Anti-War Anti-Racism Effort in full. Treasurer's Report. Linda Evans gave $2405.04 balance. Passed around sheet with recent deposits and disbursements. Anticipated (already approved) disbursements are $150 to Amnesty International to support their conference and $250 for our Veterans' Speakout. Consideration of whether to support Alternative Spring Break financially. They have asked us for $200. Per Randall, the destination (Anathoth Community Farms) has a main thrust of encouraging low impact lifestyle choices, though with an anti-war component. Discussion was letting them organize at March 20 or P4P or making donation of $25 or so. There was consensus on giving $25. Regular P4P is next Saturday, the first Saturday of the month. Ricky Baldwin (absent) will meet with Marvin Gerstein for Champaign Police about AWARE rights at P4P and in general March 20 Observation. One year from the invasion of Iraq. Carol Inskeep will do a preliminary flyer that can be handed out at P4P even if not all things are confirmed. Chief Events. Nobody went to PRAC Meeting. Events on 3/10-13/11 will go forward as planned on the quad and at the Board of Trustees Meeting Thursday morning 8:30 a.m. PRAC will be videotaping. Al Kagan said if there is only one thing that you can do it is key to attend BOT even without a vote being taken so that Trustees see the feeling about the issue. Per Ken Urban, Campus Greens and other progressive student organizations are using SORF money to bring Chuck D. rapper of Public Enemy. Planning meeting for 3/20 will be at Jan and Durl Kruse house on Tues, March 2 at 6 p.m. Bring drink and ideas. So far location for an event 3/20 is Urbana Middle School cafeteria. Speakers so far are D. Chynoweth on local government and the war and M. Al-Heeti, returned from another visit to war devastated Iraq. Lisa Chason told of radio interview call-in show with M. Al-Heeti and someone from Army Corps of Engineers having been cancelled because the Army Corps of Engineers person was directed not to participate.
